Peru Set up by an Irish man, the charity based in a shanty town outside Lima, has raised funds to build community dining rooms, small starter homes, a therapy centre and provides medication for sick and disabled children who could not otherwise attend school. They currently need an administrator / social worker who has a good knowledge of Spanish to help develop the services in the Therapy Centre. Haiti (the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere) - An established hospital in Milot, Haiti, has a need for a medical personnel. Also, at another of our mission partner sites, there is an on-going need for childcare support staff in an orphanage. Nigeria - Carpenter required to teach in a training school in Oyo state. South Africa One of our mission partners in South Africa who work in the areas of education, day care and nutrition of children (including AIDS orphans), identifying families with particular needs as a result of HIV/AIDS, promoting AIDS prevention, promoting adult literacy and skills development have various needs for volunteers in 2009: (1) Working with families and children orphaned due to AIDS. While a social work qualification would be helpful, a person with experience of working with children, their own or in a play group or other setting could contribute to the project. A volunteer will help the local workers with running various groups and an After School Club for orphan children ages 1 to 18. Many of these children have great ability and have developed confidence from helping to run the club. Working as part of a team. (2) A RE Co-ordinator (3) Manager and developer of Nutrition Centre. Would suit a person who works well with children, has initiative, enjoys creativity (using local resources - gardening, needlework, crafts in an afterschool club) and who likes to work as part of a team. (4) Financial assistant: In an AIDS outreach project and also a creche and adult literacy project, this role would involve drawing up records and reports for funders etc, training a local person in the same and in basic accounting, setting up suitable structures for succession and with management to identify a successor. A number of our members have already worked for this organisation. Due to the AIDS pandemic, needs are many and great. Ethiopia: A Project Manager, required for a project that assists the poor especially those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and the poor women to help themselves, to live life as fully as possible. This role has a lot of scope including offering support in coming to terms with the reality of living with AIDS. Desirable skills include computer literacy and managerial experience (optional). Also Peru - opportunities to work in existing teams in Peru:

Both Brazilian and Irish living and working in a very poor area of the semi-desert region of North Eastern Brazil: trained teachers are needed to help the volunteers (local) who run a Homework Club helping with basic literacy and numeracy.
