Tanzania is located in the East of Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean between Kenya & Mozambique.

The United Republic of Tanzania is a state composed of 26 regions (mikoa), including those of the autonomous region of Zanzibar. After gaining independence from Britain in the early 1960’s Tanganyika and Zanzibar united to form Tanzania. One party rule governed from the 1970’s until 1995 when the 1st democratic elections were held in the county. The formation of a government of national unity between Zanzibars two leading parties succeeded in minimizing electoral tension in 2010.
